Walnut Creek Earth Day: Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano
On April 25th, our Walnut Creek, CA office volunteered at the local Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano to help sort and distribute perishable and non-perishable items.
The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano focuses on feeding their neighbors today, and advocating for a hunger-free tomorrow. Their efforts help feed those who are in great need in their communities 7 days a week. What’s more, they rescue and prevent food waste from reaching a landfill. Each year, the nonprofit organization repurposes more than 4,500,000 lbs of food waste. The Food Bank’s great work enables them to serve an amazing 1 in 6 residents.
“It was rewarding to give back to the local community knowing that our efforts will make a difference,” says Regional Vice President at Berkley Environmental Boston Toby Leung. According to Feeding America, 51% of all food programs rely entirely on volunteers. Nonprofits lean on support from community members.
